He Consulate of the Dominican Republic in California, USA, and the General Directorate of Cinema (DGCINE) recently developed an unprecedented strategic agenda for Promote the incentives and locations offered by the Dominican Republic to senior executives of the most important ones film companies in Hollywood, in order to attract large productions to the national territory.
After several months of coordination between the two institutions, the agenda, developed between July 16 and 20, 2018, included presentations and meetings with the heads of production and finance of Paramount Pictures, Universal Studios, Sony Pictures, The Walt Disney Company, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios, Lionsgate Entertainment, Netflix, Highland Film Studios, One Race Films and AG Studios USA.
These meetings were led by the Consul General of the Dominican Republic in California, Janet Blandino, and the Director General of the DGCINE, Yvette Marichal, accompanied by the Coordinator for the Film Industry in Los Angeles, Solly Durán, and the Director of Communications of the Consulate of the Dominican Republic in California, Ron Lizardo.
"The Dominican Republic has the most competitive incentives in all of Latin America, and our goal is for every executive in the film industry to Hollywood consider making your production in our country, when choosing your filming location," he said Janet Blandino.
Since the creation of the incentives granted through the Law No. 108-10 for the Promotion of Film Activity in the Dominican Republicto, the country has become a film destination for the production of cinematographic and audiovisual works by industry companies from all over the world. Therefore, the President of the Dominican Republic, Danilo Medina, has established as a priority of his government the attracting foreign productions to be developed in the country, as well as the placement of Dominican productions on the stages of other countries.
In addition to meetings with film executives, the Consulate of the Dominican Republic in California and the DGCINE held a meeting with some of the main Location Scouts, in which the various locations that our island has to offer for film productions were promoted.
“As a result of this meeting, both institutions, together with the Ministry of Tourism, are planning a visit to the country by several of these technical and professional teams to identify the most suitable spaces to carry out their filming," he indicated. Yvette Marichal.
